For the children in young widowed families
to find hope and help as early as possible.

Our children may have lost a parent,
But they still have us.

“At 37, I became
a widow.

My husband was only 35 and our children were just 6 and 7 years old. Just three months into widowhood, I found myself sitting across from another young widowed mother, then another, and another… and so HopeHerd was born.”

Melody Huang
Founder of HopeHerd

Just like an elephant herd surrounds their vulnerable,

HopeHerd’s vision is to bring bereaved children and their mothers into a circle of care. In this herd, through consistent communal support and tools such as play-based grief therapy, children in families navigating loss can heal and grow, as do their mothers, with community journeying alongside them.

We believe in a
relationship-centric,
community-centric
approach.

Beyond time-based programmes, we endeavour to walk with children in widowed families, as well as their mothers, through the different seasons of bereavement, with the strength of the wider community.

For Children

Helping children process loss and grief grounds them in identity and purpose, setting them up for a better future. We are working towards offering grief therapy, grief educational support for caregivers and the wider community, and mentorship for children of widows between the ages of 0-16.

For Widows

We meet with young widows one-on-one to offer accompaniment and offer practical life assistance. We also connect them to professional counselling and peer support groups as required.

For the Wider Community

We organise monthly gatherings, playdates, and other family-based recreational activities to integrate widowed families into the larger “herd”. Widows with or without children are welcome to join.
